While it may have been led by lithium, and more recently, cobalt, it is also impact the more common base metals like copper, nickel, aluminium, zinc and tin. The upward movement in these prices has been partly driven by the market changing its perceptions on how quickly electric vehicles will penetrate the market and the realisation that with almost zero running costs and a lower purchase price in the future, it may be a lot quicker. More electric vehicles means an increase in demand for electric motors, batteries, charging stations, etc. and the metals that they require.

Real Energy Corporation, Cheap Option on Large Gas Resource, Massive Upside   Stuart Baker - Breakaway Research 01-Dec-2017

Real Energy has a very large gas accumulation in the Cooper Basin, where appraisal in 2018 aims to establish commercial reserves. There are MoU’s with Santos to process gas, and with Weston Energy to buy up to 18 PJ over 5 years. None of this is receiving attention in the equity market and RLE is a very cheap option on the upside from reserve bookings and future development. Drilling and testing in 2018 could drive a multi‐fold re‐rating.

Near-Term Commodity Sector Outlook

Gavin Wendt - Mine Life
Given recent headlines and speculation with respect to commodity prices, Gavin, thought it worthwhile to outline his views on the near-term picture. he remains very optimistic with respect to metals prices,
bullish on commodity prices, although he believes over the very near-term we’re likely to see the
potential for further retracement due to profit-taking, perhaps until the conclusion of the Chinese Communist Party Congress this month.
This should provide the market with more direction.
Blue Energy Ltd: Uniquely exposed to Eastern Australia Gas opportunity   Stuart Baker - Breakaway Research 22-Oct-2017

Eastern Australia faces a large and extended gas supply shortfall and gas prices have risen 300% in 5 years. This justifies a new wave of investment in production and infrastructure, predominantly in Qld and the NT. Blue Energy has the largest undeveloped resource in Eastern Qld and enormous prospective acreage in the NT, which it plans to monetize via asset transactions. The size of this resource and commercial strategy differentiates Blue Energy from its peers.

Wally Graham - Resources Roadhouse
Despite the recent efforts of the Western Australian government to hamstring the state’s gold sector, the commodity has been enjoying a buoyant 2017.

Globally, the actions of governments of larger scale and influence have provided a boost to the gold price resulting in it having gained nine per cent in just the past two months,
and 17 per cent for the calendar year to date, to be hovering above the $1600 (US$1300) per ounce range.

With the completion of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the country is signaling that it’s open for business to foreign investors.

As China moves from its former position as a global sourcing destination to its new status as a global
market, the focus for foreign businesses has shifted from the "emerging labour pool" to the "emerging middle class."
